In January-May, the volume of sales of new automobiles in Lithuania soared by 26.2% to 8,802 year-on-year, ACEA said in its report on June 16th. Faster growth was reported in Cyprus where new car sales skyrocketed by 45.3%.
In Latvia, new car sales grew by 20.2% to 6,760 in the five months of 2016 year-on-year, while growth in Estonia was by 15% to 9,760.
Across the EU, the sales of new automobiles went up by 9.9% to 6.383 million new cars in January-May of this year, growing by 16% to 1.288 million automobiles in May alone.
Volkswagen cars remain the most popular this year, selling 715,900 in the first five months of 2016, up by 1.1% year-on-year.
