"There has always been talk about synchronization in the region via Poland to Continental Europe. There is a proposal to synchronize with Finland through cables and research is still ongoing, but we do not think, at least at the initial stage, that this is technically possible," Lithuanian Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis said at a news conference while presenting the guidelines.
"We have opted, at least at this point, for one synchronization scenario, the more realistic one," he added.
The Baltic countries have agreed to disconnect from the so-called BRELL energy ring, which also includes Russia and Belarus, by 2025.
The European Commission's Joint Research Center next October is expected to give its opinion on whether synchronization with Scandinavia would be possible.
