The price of electricity in Nord Pool's Lithuanian bidding on Friday jumped to 46 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), up from around 30 euros on average last week.
Maintenance at the Kaliningrad combined heat and power plant, very low wind power generation in Lithuania and the export of daytime electricity to Poland also added to the increase in the market price, LEG said.
According to Egle Ciuzaite, CEO of LEG, Unit Nine, the Elektrenai plant's newest and most modern block, will continue to generate electricity for as long as necessary to keep the market price from rising further. The unit's average capacity on Friday will amount to 260 MWh per hour.
