The German mail and logistics services group said in a press release on Thursday that it would cooperate with Finland's Posti and Norway's Bring to extend DHL Parcel's network for cross-border e-commerce to seven countries, including Lithuania.
"At the outset we will offer the 22 million online shoppers in northern Europe convenient access to the largest parcel shop network in this area," it said.
DHL Lietuva CEO Mindaugas Pivoriunas told that the company was looking at whether it would be better to set up a parcel network of its own or use partners' terminals.
One of the possible options would be to cooperate with DHL Lietuva's current partner, Omniva LT, which currently has 45 parcel terminals in Lithuania and plans to increase that number to 67 by July.
Simonas Bielskis, CEO of Estonian-owned Omniva LT, told that he had not known about the German group's plans until the official announcement was made.
"No doubt, that would be an interesting project for us. We already work with DHL Lietuva in providing courier services and we would be interested in partnership in expanding the parcel terminal business," he said.
According to Bielskis, Omniva LT will catch up with LP Express24 this summer in terms of the number of parcel terminals.
