The UK ranks 6th among Lithuania's trading partners, and is 11th among the top investors to Lithuania", said the First Deputy Chancellor of the Government, and has stressed that the potential has not yet been fully tapped. "We would encourage even more active dialogue between the business communities of the two countries", said Rimantas Vaitkus.
Special Representative Jeremy Browne has noted the growing economy in Lithuania and the Government's efforts to improve business climate in order to attract more foreign investment, including from the London financial centre. According to him, the City of London community is ready to actively cooperate in looking for investment niches in the fields like banking, insurance, private pension funds, and legal services.
The First Deputy Chancellor has noted Lithuania's high international ratings, which are a great illustration of positive changes in the business climate. "The World Bank's Doing Business report 2016 ranks Lithuania 20th best country in the world on ease of doing business. London investors may find interesting such areas as information technology, financial sector, research in the field of life sciences, and finally – value added manufacturing industry in the fields of fabric, wood, and metal processing", said the First Deputy Chancellor.
It has been agreed in the meeting that both sides will continue to develop partnership, particularly as regards experience exchange towards better business environment and attracting investments, as well as closer public-private partnerships.
