"Challenges to our security have further brought us together to strengthen our defense capacity. We must be prepared for any challenges and continuously increase our ability to coordinate actions with our allies. Collective defense is the cornerstone of a united and strong NATO because joint efforts enable us to counter all threats," the President said.
According to Dalia Grybauskaitė, NATO exercises in Lithuania show that the Alliance places special focus on the security of our region and takes the threats facing it seriously. These exercises not only help to assess interoperability and collaborative work among NATO troops but also increase the preparedness, maintenance and modernization of the Lithuanian armed forces.
At the moment, five national and international exercises during which local troops build up their skills and competences are taking place in our country.
The exercise Iron Sword is conducted for the second successive year. It involves nine NATO countries – Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, the USA, Canada, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Germany, and the United Kingdom – as well as NATO partner Georgia.
