During the meeting, Mr. Pranevičius expressed Lithuania's support for the activities of the IOM and confirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' commitment to continuing cooperation with the IOM. The IOM representative, in turn, thanked Lithuania for the excellent cooperation.
The discussion focused on Lithuania's support for IOM activities, migration management and the protection of migrants' rights, support for war refugees from Ukraine, the employment of foreign nationals, the implementation of the European Union's Pact on Migration and Asylum, challenges related to the instrumentalization of migration by third countries, and other relevant issues of cooperation between Lithuania and the IOM.
Lithuania became a member of the IOM in 1998. In the same year, the IOM Vilnius Office was established in Vilnius, currently headed by Aurelija Makauskienė.
The IOM Sub-regional Office in Brussels, headed by Director G. Rocco, coordinates IOM activities in relations with all countries of the European Economic Area.
