According to the President, the new cabinet of ministers begins its work in a difficult situation for the whole country, and the first and most urgent task will be to tackle the pandemic crisis by making swift, decisive and effective decisions.
The President stressed that he had an opportunity to meet all the candidates and assess their suitability for the responsible position.
“The formation of the Government finished almost at the same time as the drafting of the programme of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania which will be debated in the Seimas tomorrow. We took all this time to meet the candidates and assess their professional background. I am delighted that the representatives of the ruling coalition and I managed to agree on all candidates for ministerial positions by the way of constructive cooperation”, the President said.
The 18th Government will consist of the following ministers:
Arvydas Anušauskas, Minister of National Defense;
Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of Economy and Innovation;
Agnė Bilotaitė, Minister of Interior;
Evelina Dobrovolska, Minister of Justice;
Arūnas Dulkys, Minister of Health;
Simonas Gentvilas, Minister of Environment;
Simonas Kairys, Minister of Culture;
Dainius Kreivys, Minister of Energy;
Gabrielius Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs;
Kęstutis Navickas, Minister of Agriculture;
Monika Navickienė, Minister of Social Security and Labour;
Gintarė Skaistė, Minister of Finance;
Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications;
Jurgita Šiugždinienė, Minister of Education, Science and Sport.
According to the President, preliminary assessment of the new Government’s program presented on Monday shows that it is ambitious and meets the goals set in the vision of welfare state.
“It was broadly discussed with the candidates too. I can firmly say that in many cases the provisions, principles, plans and strategies coincide, therefore, I hope for continued close cooperation and looking in the same direction, and I believe that we can do a lot for the benefit of Lithuania”, the President said.
