WorldThe European Commission has released an additional aid package of €15 million amid an increasingly deteriorating humanitarian situation in South Sudan. The funding brings the total EU humanitarian aid for the country to nearly €300 million so far in 2015. An emergency proposal to relocate 120,000 asylum seekers from Italy, Greece and Hungary among EU member states was backed by Parliament on Thursday. The first temporary emergency rules for relocating an initial 40,000 over two years from Italy and Greece only were approved by Parliament on 9 September. This factsheet highlights the EU's cooperation with Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda, by giving an overview of each country and their regional context and their achievements in relation to the MDGs. Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister underlines importance of EU’s comprehensive migration policy in Brussels2015-09-15, 10:37At the EU's General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels on 14 September, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis called for a comprehensive approach to migration management. President Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Georgian Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli to discuss regional security issues, bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia in the field of defense, and progress in the ongoing reforms in Georgia. The meeting focused on the actions needed to ensure stable gas supplies to Ukraine and via Ukraine to the EU during winter. It was also the occasion to exchange views on matters regarding the EU-Russia energy relations. On 8 September in New York, the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the UN and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, launched the report of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. The event was attended by representatives from permanent missions, the UN Secretariat and non-governmental organizations. Loreta Graužinienė, Speaker of the Seimas, welcomed Toyoei Shigeeda, a newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania. During the meeting, the Speaker and the Ambassador of Japan discussed bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy, culture and science, and touched upon the relations with Russia. Mrs Graužinienė also expressed her appreciation of the fact that, despite great geographical distance, our countries enjoyed close inter-parliamentary cooperation, as demonstrated by the visit of Masaaki Yamazaki, President of the House of Councillors of Japan, to Lithuania last July, and active engagement of groups for inter-parliamentary relations in both parliaments, and visits of our MPs to Japan.
