WorldEP human rights chair Valenciano: grave concerns on hunger strike by Sakharov Laureate Fariñas2016-08-07, 09:52Chair of the European Parliament’s Human Rights committee MEP Elena Valenciano (S&D,ES) expressed on Monday her concern and solidarity with Cuban human rights activist and Sakharov Prize Laureate 2010 Guillermo Fariñas and other Cuban human rights activists on hunger strike. Mr Fariñas is on a hunger and thirst strike to protest against the torture and mistreatment of political prisoners by the Cuban Government. The EU has experienced an unprecedented influx of migrants over the last few years. 74% of Europeans want the EU to do more to manage the situation, according to the latest Eurobarometer poll commissioned by the European Parliament. On July 25 an updated Protocol of Amendment to the agreement of military cooperation between the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania of 2008 was signed in Astana, Kazakhstan. The document stipulates cooperation between the two countries in defence policy, personnel training, logistics, regional security, and other areas of interest for both parties. Facility for Refugees in Turkey: over €1.4 billion in support of education and health for Syrian refugees2016-07-29, 14:20The EU is delivering on its commitment to speed up the implementation of the Facility for Refugees in Turkey bringing the total amount mobilised to more than €2 billion to finance actions in the field of health, education, socio-economic support as well as humanitarian assistance for Syrian refugees. In his letter of 25 July 2016 to Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius, expressed condolences over the brutal attacks in Munich, Reutlingen and Ansbach which took the lives of ten innocent people and left many more injured. On behalf of the Lithuanian people and on her own behalf, President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended condolences to Emperor Akihito of Japan over the tragic attack in Sagamihara that left dozens of people dead and many injured. |
