According to the President, we see Japan as an important, like-minded strategic partner of Lithuania and the European Union in defending and delivering the rule of law, human rights and democratic values. A strong bond of friendship between the two countries has been consolidated by cherished memories of the high-minded Japanese diplomat and the Righteous Among the Nations, Chiune Sugihara, who worked in Lithuania. This year marks the 30th anniversary of re-established diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Japan. “I firmly believe that close cooperation between Lithuania and Japan, especially in science, health care, green energy, and innovative technologies, will contribute to social and economic progress and security in our both countries,” the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
Gitanas Nausėda wished His Imperial Majesty good health and continued success, as well as peace and prosperity to Japan and its people. The President invited representatives of the Imperial Family to visit Lithuania in 2022, when the two countries celebrate 100 years of their bilateral diplomatic relations.
