The President expressed support to Georgia’s leader in her efforts to speak with all political forces, ensuring political dialogue. “Consensus and trust in society are the foundation of progress and democracy in every country. Lithuanian society and political parties have reached agreement on national strategic goals, building a basis for our success,” the President said.
Among the other issues discussed was preparatory work for the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit. The President voiced his support to Georgia’s active stand in Eastern Partnership policies and appreciation for the efforts of the three associated countries - Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia - to create an increasingly closer partnership. The President underlined that the united voice of highly motivated Eastern partners sounded louder in European capitals. According to Gitanas Nausėda, we should use the opportunity to set long-term ambitious goals for the Eastern Partnership political agenda.
The President emphasized that Lithuania consistently supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, raising this issue in international meetings and forums.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined his determination to ensure access to EU vaccines for Eastern Partnership countries at the highest EU level by proposing to create a mechanism of support similar to that activated for the Western Balkans.
The President expressed regret about having to cancel his visit to Georgia in 2020 because of the pandemic, but he said that he would hopefully make the visit this coming May.
