"Please accept my personal sympathy and the condolences of the Lithuanian people over the devastating consequences caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. I wish strength and fortitude to the victims' families, friends and to all those injured and left homeless," the President wrote in her message of condolences.
Typhoon Yolanda, one of the strongest storms to hit the Philippines. Officials estimate up to 10,000 people have died in Tacloban city and elsewhere. Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced. More than nine million people have been affected in the Philippines, and many are now struggling to survive without food, shelter or clean drinking water. But it is clear the number of dead will rise significantly.
Rescue efforts are being hindered by damage to roads and airports.
