“Only the good side of UNESCO is known in Lithuania. Thus, it is important for us to make the organization’s activities even more visible and to make a better use of Lithuania’s experience on the Executive Board,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister. In the meeting, the officials exchanged views on important issues related to UNESCO’s activities and the future of the organization.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. The purpose of UNESCO is to contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among the nations through education, science and culture. Lithuania was elected as a member of UNESCO’s Executive Board for the period 2015–2019. Voting on the candidate for UNESCO’s post of Director-General will start in October. The Board’s candidate will be proposed for election to all of the organization’s member states in November. Currently, the member states have nominated eight candidates for UNESCO’s post of Director-General.
