According to scientists, regular lack of sleep can become a real brain killer. Nerve cells of the brain can regenerate and prepare for further stimuli during sleep and insomnia prevents this process and causes memory, concentration and well-being to deteriorate.
Brain hypoxia when sleeping also negatively affects the condition of the brain. Hypoxia is the result of an obstructive sleep apnea, which manifests itself, inter alia, in snoring and increases the risk of stroke.
Smog also has a harmful effect on the brain. The penetration of smog into the brain causes the development of inflammation, which disrupts the work of neurons and makes them perform worse.
Smoking is also dangerous. Research has shown that tobacco smoke gradually depletes the cerebral cortex and reduces the number of grey cells, thereby increasing the risk of dementia.
Noise and stress is also harmful for human brain. Brain suffers from an excess of stimuli during stressful situations and loud noise. Because of this, the concentration of stress hormones increases, so the brain stops responding properly to impulses.
Lack of mental training also has a negative effect, as thinking and stimulating the brain are crucial. During mental training, e.g. learning foreign languages, reading books, solving crosswords and puzzles, neurons transmit information more efficiently, which improves memory and concentration, and increases the ability to think logically.
The research also shows that loneliness can be fatal for the brain too. The best remedy is to communicate with other people. During a conversation, thoughts are formulated, reactions and signals sent by the interlocutor are received. Conversation with another person improves not only our intellect, but also empathy and the ability to express emotions.
Human brain is badly affected by an incorrect diet. Therefore, we should eat breakfast, avoid too much sugar and too much food in general, as these factors can contribute to very poor blood supply to the brain and the death of neurons. In addition, overweight and obesity disrupt the hormonal balance, which is also an additional burden on the brain. Alcohol is also extremely toxic to the brain. Research has shown that it kills neurons and can lead to epilepsy in case of alcohol dependence.
