According to the President, the 700 MW power link with Sweden and the 500 MW power bridge with Poland embody yet another very important achievement of the state in securing energy, economic and political security.

"With the links in place, we are increasing stability and solidary and ending dependence on a single supplier. We are becoming part of the Western European energy market. This is a strategic and historic achievement of our region. Today we are building what is of strategic importance to the Baltic countries and the whole of the European Union," the President said.

Dalia Grybauskaitė pointed out that, after 25 years of consolidating political independence, today Lithuania was making its own decisions on how to develop and build the state. According to the President, our country is demonstrating its political maturity to the world through successful implemention of strategic projects.

Dalia Grybauskaitė also emphasized that Lithuania is taking on a leading role in energy security. At the initiative of our country and with active cooperation of the other Baltic States, Poland and Sweden, the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan has been approved and the European Commission's political and financial support for strategic energy projects has been secured. According to the President, we have worked together to turn an isolated energy island into a successful Baltic power ring.

Dalia Grybauskaitė noted that all this illustrates concerted political will, foresight and successful partnership.

NordBalt and LitPol Link will connect the Baltic countries to Scandinavian and continental European electricity grids, which will forge new paths for electricity imports and exports in the region, end the energy isolation of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, increase competitiveness in the electricity market, and offer lower electricity prices for Lithuanian consumers.
