Michal Mackevič: we expect 10 thousand Poles to march through the streets of Vilnius

On Saturday 4th May the march on the occasion of the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad is coming back to the streets of Vilnius after a three-year break. President of the Association of Poles in Lithuania Michal Mackevič underlined that the organisers expect more than 10 thousand people to attend the march. 

Tha march will begin at 11 am at the square by the Seimas. The people gathered will march through Gedymino Avenue, Vilnius Street, Vokieciu Street to the Gate of Dawn, where Holy Mass will be celebrated at 12 pm. Day of the Flag of Rzeczpospolita Polska and May 3rd Constitution Day will be commemorated on this day in Vilnius in the celebration of the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad. Members of various branches of the Association of Poles in Lithuania will take part in the march.

‘This march is very important for the Poles abroad. It is organised in order to integrate, celebrate en masse. The celebration of the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad is the certificate of the relationship of a country with Poland. The most conscious and organised Poles of Lithuania will take part in this event,’ said Michal Mackevič , the Chairman of the Association of Poles in Lithuania and Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

The chairman underlined, that the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad celebrated on 2nd May is an opportunity to reflect on whether being a Pole is a reason to be proud. 2nd May is a working day, therefore the celebration will take place on 4th May. As in the previous years, all the branches of the Association of Poles in Lithuania as well as individual people are going to take part in the march. ‘Everybody is welcome to celebrate this day,’ invites Michal Mackevič.
