Within the celebrations of the International Day of Solidarity of Workers in Vilnius there was marching and concert organized. The cortege set off the Parliament and marched through Gediminas Avenue, Vilnius St. and Green Bridge to reach the White Bridge, where Trimitas brass band, dance groups, band Šeškai, Skyders and Rebelheart were performing.

The celebration of Labor Day in Lithuania is evaluated ambiguously. May 1 became a national holiday and a day off from work in Lithuania since 2001 – after the Parliament had rejected a veto of President Valdas Adamkus. The then President V. Adamkus claimed that May 1 associates for some people with the Soviet period, so it is not a celebration that unites the nation.

The supporters of this public holiday point that this day is also celebrated in the Western democracies.

- May 1 was obligatory feast associated with the communist regime, today and in the future it is a holiday associated with the Polish membership in the European Union – the President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski said today at European Picnic in the Warsaw Lazienki Park.

- Work is an essential element of human dignity - said Pope Francis during Wednesday's general audience in Rome. On this day the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of St. Joseph the Worker.
