Ministers will discuss regional security, assistance to Ukraine, the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw, bilateral cooperation and other points of security and defence.
After the bilateral meeting Ministers will attend a rotation ceremony for NATO's Baltic Air Policing Mission air contingents ceremony. Soldiers of the Hungarian Air Force with four JAS-39 Gripen fighter aircraft will take over the mission from Norwegian and Italian air contingents as of September 1. This is the first Hungary's deployment to the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states.
Later on Ministers will proceed to take part in the opening of the exhibition on the History of Hungarian Military Aviation at the Lithuanian Aviation Museum in Kaunas.
Hungary was the first European NATO ally to send rotating forces to Lithuania to strengthen the assurance measures in the Baltic region agreed to by NATO. Hungarian military personnel took part in Exercise Iron Sword 2014 in Lithuania last year.
Lithuania and Hungary cooperate in defence area on the basis of an arrangement on bilateral contacts and defence cooperation signed in 1997.
Lithuanian troops studied languages, attended military observers' and other courses in Hungary. Till Lithuania's NATO accession in 2004 Hungary was sharing its experience with Lithuania on NATO negotiations, drawing up necessary documents and armed forces reform according to NATO standards. In 2005 Water Purification Unit of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis Main Support Logistics Battalion conducted standby for the 4th shift of the NATO Response Force together with a Hungarian logistic unit.
