During the meeting, the President said that, as Ukrainians were fighting for their freedom and the freedom of Europe as a whole, we had to provide Ukraine with financial, humanitarian and military support and further tighten sanctions on Russia.
“The unprecedented sanctions imposed on Russia so far, coordinated by the EU, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, should be further strengthened,” the President said. According to him, we must completely isolate Russia from the world economically, financially and technologically and impose individual sanctions on oligarchs and their family members. Gitanas Nausėda also strongly advocated the imposition of the same sanctions on Belarus, which is an ally in Russia’s war.
The President noted that, on the Alliance’s eastern flank, we had to think not only about deterrence but also about strengthening our defense capabilities: deploying the necessary forces in the region without delay, reinforcing the Joint Expeditionary Force and placing special focus on air defense. “We must further strengthen NATO’s military forces in Lithuania and the Baltic region. We must be prepared for all possible scenarios,” the President said.
