During the meeting, the President said that Lithuania highly valued its long-standing strategic partnership with the United States and stressed the importance of a strong transatlantic relationship in ensuring the security of the Euro-Atlantic area. Gitanas Nausėda noted that Lithuania greatly appreciated the U.S. contribution to strengthening Lithuania's defense capabilities and emphasized the importance of the permanent presence of U.S. troops in Lithuania and the Baltic region.
“It is very important to ensure the continuity of a rotational deployment of the U.S. battalion. We are also ready to host additional U.S. troops and provide all the necessary support from the host country,” the President said.
The security situation in Europe, the increase of allied forces in the region as well as measures to strengthen security in the Baltic region were discussed at the meeting.
This year marks the centenary of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and the United States.
