The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy pointed out that Lithuania's Presidency of the EU Council attached great importance to the process of further enlargement of the European Union. L.Linkevičius drew attention to the significance of this process – an integral part of each country's progress on reforms - for the future of Europe. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister and his counterparts from the Visegrad Group and other countries also discussed the impact on further enlargement process of the annual Enlargement package that had been recently adopted by the Commission.
Victoria Nuland, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State, also participated in the discussion. She welcomed the participants of the event and stressed the value of such discussions for the implementation of the EU's enlargement policy. V.Nuland drew the attention of candidate countries to the significance of implementation and sustainability of political and judicial reforms.
Before the end of his visit in Hungary, Lithuania's Foreign Minister welcomed participants of a ministerial meeting which was organised by the Central European Initiative - a forum of regional cooperation with 18 member countries. After remarking that not all members of this organization had joined the EU, L.Linkevičius stressed the importance of regional cooperation in achieving this objective.
