The Prime Minister has noted the need for a breakthrough in country’s relations with the European Commission and its individual members with a view to increasing the added value for Lithuania. According to the Commissioner, he, in a way, is a member of the Cabinet taking care of Lithuania’s problems. Vytenis Andriukaitis has pointed out that the European Commission is interested in the development of closer cooperation.
“We look forward to Commission’s detailed report on Lithuania next month, which will take stock of the economic situation and judge on the progress in reforming the country. It is crucial that the European Commission recognizes the new social model as a structural reform”, said the Prime Minister.
The meeting has also covered other issues of great relevance for Lithuania, including energy and transport projects: power grid synchronization, Nord Stream, Rail Baltica and others.
The Head of the Government once again pointed out the issue of the safety of Astravas nuclear power plant. According to the Prime Minister, it should concern the entire European Union, as the recurring incidents, recorded not only by Lithuania but also by relevant international organizations, give many worries, therefore, European Commission’s involvement is very much needed.
