"Bearing in mind the current geopolitical situation, we must further intensify our security and defence cooperation, consistently implement decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Wales, seriously prepare for the Warsaw Summit and strengthen the Baltic-Nordic cooperation," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy.
As regards energy cooperation, Linkevičius welcomed the progress made in creating a single gas market in the Baltic States and called for a joint effort to synchronise the Baltic and continental European power systems as soon as possible.
"Lithuania and Estonia will continue to actively support the Eastern Partnership initiative and will share their European integration experiences with Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. Ukraine is implementing reforms under especially difficult circumstances, which arise from Russia's continued aggression. Thus friends and partners' support for Kyiv is important. We are determined to help Ukraine implement the Association Agreement," said Linkevičius.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister said that sanctions on Russia had to be maintained until the Minsk agreements were fully implemented. Linkevičius and Kaljurand condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.
This is Kaljurand's first visit to Lithuania after her appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia in July 2015.
