The Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius sent a letter to Litvak Michael Levitt, congratulating him on winning the 2013 Nobel Prize in chemistry. The Minister invited M.Levitt, whose family came from Plungė, to Lithuania.

On 4-6 December 2013 the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania along with the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology will hold the first Vilnius Innovation Forum 'Innovation Drift' in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Sir Timothy John Berners−Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, who is coming to the Baltic States for the first time, is invited as one of the keynote speakers of the Forum. Moreover, insights on the role of innovation in Europe's economy will be also shared by business and science innovation leaders from all over Europe.

Lithuania-based company Neurotechnology has released freeware application NPointer 2.0 for gestural and voice-based computer control and navigation, the company said in a statement.

On October 8 – 9, 2013, the 28th conference of the European Board of National Archivists (EBNA) and the 15th meeting of the European Archives Group (EAG) take place in the Conference Centre of the Radisson Blue Hotel Lietuva. The events are related to the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and are organised by the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania. Šarūnas Birutis, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, is to make his welcome speech to the participants of the conference.

The Baltic Course with reference to the news agency ELTA writes that although in the last seven years the number of schoolchildren in Lithuania's schools decreased by almost a third, but in new school year of 2013 there are 2,000 more first graders compared to 2012.

On September 30 – October 1 the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council hosted the conference "Enhancement of European International Cooperation and Eastern Partnership in research, development and innovation" (EEP2013) in Vilnius. The conference focused on cooperation in RDI at the international level with special emphasis on Eastern Partnership countries in the context of the European Research Area, Innovation Union, Europe 2020 and Eastern Partnership Roadmap initiatives.
