EducationThe delegation of CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) led by professor Rolf Dieter Heuer, Director General of CERN, visited Lithuania and Vilnius University on 26 September 2014. CERN is a European research organization the purpose of which is to operate the world's largest particle physics laboratory. Yesterday the test of knowledge of the Constitution took place for the eighth time. It was organized by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania. All the citizens of Lithuania could take part in the test. The test was also available online. The EU boasts 24 official languages and it has always sought to protect this linguistic diversity. Everyone has the right to communicate with the EU institutions in their own language and receive an answer in the same language. Since 2001 the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year to promote language learning and highlight the importance of multilingualism. Almost half of all the students who obtained the highest state exam results and who opted for management and economic studies, will study in the ISM University of Management and Economics. This is the best result among the managerial and economic studies offered by Lithuanian high schools. Such results were notified by ISM University of Management and Economics. Three hundred ninety-two new students will begin their studies at European Humanities University (EHU) in the fall 2014. Their numbers include 329 undergraduate and 63 graduate students. On September 19th, 2014, Lithuania Post, one of the biggest Lithuanian companies providing postal and logistic services, signed a cooperation agreement with the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). On the grounds of cooperation, the students will have more opportunities to have a supervised practice and start a professional career with Lithuania Post. Are measures to help reduce youth unemployment working? MEPs will assess the progress of two key programmes - the European Youth Guarantee and the Youth Employment Initiative - with the Council and the Commission on Wednesday 17 September. This evaluation is sorely needed considering as many as 5.2 million young people were out of work in the EU in May. To mark this historical event, Lithuania Post is going to release a new postage stamp that will appear in circulation this Saturday, September 20. "QS World University Rankings" – a list of the world's top universities – has included seven Baltic universities this year. Out of the seven Baltic universities on the list, the University of Latvia (LU) is the only university representing Latvia. Tartu is leading in Baltics. The program of students and teachers exchange in the EU exists for over 25 years. Each year mere and more students take part in the program, e.g. in 2012-13 about 270 thousand students participated. Spending time abroad helps students broaden their experience and gives them opportunities to increase their employability, while academics can bring home valuable experience to improve teaching quality. |
