Every year stakeholders come together to discuss issues such as technology standards and the smooth running of the internet at the annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum. This United Nations initiative is now up for renewal. The European Parliament adopted a resolution on 11 February to back its renewal and ask for additional resources for this important forum. Rotten WiFi – a public WiFi and 3G/4G watchdog has analyzed all the collected data regarding the quality of 3G and 4G networks that its users have tested and evaluated. Overall the speed of mobile Internet was measured in 117 countries worldwide. In February a newly created national open access digital archive for scientific information data is to be opened at the Centre of Information Technology Development of Vilnius University. MEPs debated the latest plan to make €1 billion in Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) funding available in 2015 with Commissioner Marianne Thyssen on Tuesday morning. A majority of speakers backed the idea of speeding up the delivery of funding for projects to fight youth unemployment, while also developing long-term solutions and introducing structural reforms. The usage of information technologies is rapidly evolving into the construction sector in Lithuania: Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and International Corporation, "Bentley Systems" has signed a contract on founding "BIM (Building Information Modelling) Academy". VGTU will coordinate the activities of the Academy in the Baltic region. In early March, 2015 Lithuanian Science Awards Commission announced the winners of the Lithuanian Science Awards 2014. Three awards out of six will go to VU scientists. Commission helps bring Europe's best innovations to the market2015-02-08, 15:48With the support of the European Research Council (ERC) "Proof of Concept" grants, 59 researchers in Europe will now get the chance to turn their inventions into viable products. Among these mould-breaking ideas are such innovations as a simple blood test to diagnose breast cancer, a timber wood tracking device to help prevent illegal deforestation, and artificial veins modelled on marine sponges. Worth up to €150,000, these grants will allow selected ERC grantees to build start-ups, establish intellectual property rights for their inventions or explore other ways to test their ideas on the market.
