The European Commission today adopted its most ambitious plan in 26 years of telecoms market reform. Launched by Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in his 2013 State of the Union speech, the "Connected Continent" legislative package, when adopted, will reduce consumer charges, simplify red tape faced by companies, and bring a range of new rights for both users and service providers, so that Europe can once again be a global digital leader.

On 17-22 September the exhibition of space-based technologies 'European Space Expo' will be held in Vilnius Cathedral square. This is the first stop of the exhibition in the Baltic States, which is the project of the European Commission, traveling through European cities and presenting the achievements, ambitions of space-based technologies and services, their role in everyday life and benefit to the society.

On August 26, Statistics Lithuania was visited by Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Mittag (the Hagen University) with a lecture "Employment of new technical platforms for interactively visualizing statistical methods and statistical data".

Europe's most successful student exchange programme will be relaunched in an improved and expanded version. Under the new name Erasmus+, the programme will cover education, training, youth and for the first time ever also sport, after an agreement was reached between the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers in June.
