EconomyThe Lithuanian distribution network operator AB LESTO is extending cooperation with AB Lietuvos pastas. The state-owned companies agreed on service provision to LESTO customers at 45 post offices in Lithuania. After the official visit by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania Arijandas Šliupas, aimed on increasing the cooperation with People's Republic of China, Chinese media evaluated the Lithuanian scope to establish stable, constructive and mutually beneficial business relationship positively. In the first half of 2014, a total of 6,998 economic entities were registered in Lithuania, or a 0.2% increase year-on-year, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Department of Statistics. Based on data provided by social and media research company TNS LT, in January-May 2014 compared with the same period in 2013, total advertising volume in Lithuania increased by 6.2%. This year outdoor, cinema, radio and television advertising increased the most. In May 2014, compared with April 2014, industrial producer prices in Lithuania fell by 1.5%, while compared with May 2013 they declined by 4.8%, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, said. In May 2014, compared with April 2014, industrial producer prices fell by 0.1% in both the euro area and the EU. As only six months remain until the introduction of the euro in Lithuania, no rising trends in prices are registered, says Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius. From July 1, 2014, natural gas price tariffs will be reduced for Lithuanian household consumers by 15-23%. During the first five months of 2014, Lithuanian non-life insurance company BTA generated almost LTL 76 million (EUR 22 million) of insurance premiums, while the volume of written gross premiums amounted to LTL 40 million (EUR 12 million). Statistics Lithuania informs that in May 2014, industrial production totalled LTL 5.7 billion at current prices and, compared to April, grew by 2.4% at constant prices, seasonally adjusted – by 1.6%. Soon the euro will become a reality in Lithuanians' wallets, and banknotes marking national revival leaders Darius Girėnas, and other prominent cultural figures will fade out. The government is in euphoria, but the current role of the euro in Europe is similar to a swimmer in the midway: he still cannot safely reach the other side of the shore and can no longer go back. The euro was a risky project from the beginning and now we have become a part of it. |
