It is a truly historic moment: the automotive manufacturing plant is one of the largest investment projects in Lithuania over the past 20 years. Continental plans to invest 95 million euros and create around 1,000 well-paid jobs for highly qualified workers before 2021.
“I am particularly delighted by the fact that Lithuania now emerges on the map for other potential foreign investors. As a modern industrial region with an excellent infrastructure and engineering readiness, Kaunas is the ideal location for manufacturing automotive state-of-the-art electronics. By choosing to take root here, Continental, a big and well-established market player, shows the way for other manufacturers,” the President said in his opening speech.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, this investment comes to Lithuania at a critical time for the whole automotive industry. New trends, such as automated driving, electrification and connectivity, add to the demand for vehicle electronics and extra safety measures.
Continental conforms to all sustainability standards and environemntal requirements. The project received LEED gold for sustainable design. The plant fulfills Industry 4.0 requirements for automated guided vehicles.
