According to the data of Statistics Lithuania, in January 2014, 70 tonnes of goods and mail were transported by Lithuanian air company airplanes or by 49.7% more year-on-year. Cargo turnover increased by 2.5 times and constituted 70.6 thousand tonne-kilometres.
In January 2014, 3.6 million tonnes of cargo was moved using railway transport, or by 13.6% less year-on-year. International cargo freight using railway fell by 7.1% year-on-year and constituted to 2.7 million tonnes. Internal freight dropped by 28.7% and constituted 0.9 million tonnes.
Cargo handling in Klaipeda State Seaport and Butinge terminal amounted to 3.1 million tonnes and dropped by 21.5% year-on-year. In January 2014, Klaipeda State Seaport handled 2.6 million tonnes of cargo or by 11.9% less year-on-year, while Butinges terminal handled 0.5 million tonnes or by 49.9% less year-on-year.
Liquid cargo constituted 34.4% (1.1 million tonnes), bulk cargo – 37.2% (1.2 million tonnes), general cargo – 28.5% (0.9 million tonnes) of all cargo.
In January 2014 ear-on-year, there was a 46.4% drop in liquid cargo volume. However, bulk cargo volume grew by 0.9% and general cargo volume grew by 7.8%.
In January 2014, 35,200 containers TEU (twenty-foot equivalent), 19,900 road vehicles and 21 freight wagons were handled. Year-on-year, container handling increased by 15.4%, road vehicle by 0.2%. However, freight wagon handling plummeted by 89.9%.
