The Director of IMF starts her visit in Lithuania

The director of International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, and the chairman of the board of the European Central Bank Jorg Asmussen started their two day visit in Lithuania.

This is the first visit to Lithuania of the director of IMF in 16 years - in 1997 the director at the time Michell Camdessus visited Lithuania. Also, it is the first ever visit by the representatives of the European Central Bank.

This Wednesday, Christine Lagarde will meet with the President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Prime Minister Algirdas Buškevičius, the Minister of Finance Rimantas Šadžius, and the chair of the Lithuanian Bank Vitas Vasiliauskas. Jorg Asmussen will also meet with Vitas Vasiliauskas and the board members - it is expected to discuss the status of one of biggest Lithuanian export markets - eurozone - as well as the country's aspirations to introduce euro in 2015.

The director of IMF and the board member of ECB together with Lithuanian bank will participate in the open discussion at Vilnius University 'European economic integration: challenges and possibilities'.
