Lithuania registers EU's steepest increase in industrial production output in May

Compared to May 2012, industrial production output in Latvia increased by 0.6% in May 2013 – the second smallest increase in the European Union, according to the EU's statistical office Eurostat. The steepest increase in industrial production output was registered in Lithuania – 21.6%, followed by Estonia – 6.3%, and Portugal – 4.5%, writes LETA.

Only France had a smaller increase in industrial production – by 0.4%.

The largest decreases in industrial production output were recorded in Ireland – 7.7%, Sweden – 7.7%, and Bulgaria – 6%.

In all EU member states for which data are available, industrial production output fell 1.6% in May, in the euro area – 1.3%.

Compared to April, industrial production output reduced 0.6% in the EU and 0.3% in the euro area.

The steepest month-on-month increases were registered in Portugal – 6.1%, Latvia – 2.2%, and Estonia – 2% each.

The largest reduction was registered in Romania – 10.7%, followed by Lithuania – 6.3%, and Sweden – 3.8%.
